Records were broken at the 2014 Bassmaster Classic fished at Lake Guntersville February 21-23. The Blastoff at Guntersville Harbor drew 11,500 spectators, the biggest launch crowd in Classic history. Guntersville’s Harbor proved the perfect location for the Classic’s takeoff with plenty of dock for the pros to tie up for media interviews and fan photos. Crowds packed the banks of the harbor three and four deep each morning to watch their favorite fisherman head out for the day.
After a stormy night, the first day of fishing started slow, but by day two, it picked up as the pros began to roll into the weigh-in with 20 to 25 pound bags. Then, Paul Mueller proved what all the anglers know about Lake Guntersville with his 32 pound bag, breaking the daily record for the Classic.
On day three, Randy Howell had what he has called his best day fishing yet proving that on Lake Guntersville anything is possible. He came back from 11th place to win the 2014 Bassmaster Classic with a total weight of 67 pounds, 8 oz.
